Week on 1 Page - Colors [half-size]

Saturday, November 29, 2014
Today I was playing around with creating planner inserts with a graph paper background and eventually added color to these inserts.

These week on 1 page inserts for half-size users come in 5 different colors:  orange, dark red, purple, magenta and sea green.

I'll be adding more inserts with color in the near future.

5 Christmas Planners to Use Now!

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

Haven't started making your Christmas plans yet?  Thanksgiving is a big deal around here with lots of family members joining us so I usually can't even think about Christmas preparations until at least the day after Thanksgiving.  Below you will find links to several different types of Christmas planner, including one from me.  Some are simple, some are more involved (the pages from Botanical Paperworks are absolutely gorgeous!) but all of them will help you get the job done.  The first step is to start writing!!

  1. FREE 2014 Christmas Planner - Planner Fun
  2. Holiday Planner 2014 - Living Well Spending Less
  3. Christmas Planner - Life Your Way
  4. Holiday Planner - Paradise Praises

Daily Page for Thanksgiving Day

Monday, November 24, 2014
This planner insert almost doesn't qualify for Modified Mondays because I modified it to the point that it really doesn't look anything like the original.

I took a daily page that I had previously made and changed it around to make a page that I am going to use on Thanksgiving Day.  All you will find on this page is a column for to-do's and a timeline in the next.  For the half-size, I have made 2 on one page - one is dated for this year and the other for 2015.

After I figure how long my turkey has to cook, I start scheduling when things have to go in and out of the oven, so it is all ready (basically) at the same time.  This page will stay in my planner for the next few days but on Thanksgiving day, I will be taping it to the kitchen cabinet!

You can download the page here:  Thanksgiving Daily Page

When the Planner is not Near

Sunday, November 23, 2014
I recently purchased a purse for the sole purpose of holding my planner.  I take my planner everywhere and I wanted a purse that would hold it comfortable so I didn't have to struggle to get it in and out to take a note.

Is there ever a time that my planner is not nearby?  Sure there is!!  Friday night it was in my purse when my husband reminded me to pay a bill the next morning.  I'd remember that, I thought (I actually only remembered when writing this post) but I didn't, uh-oh!

Hmm, I needed a plan for those sorts of things as well.  So, my purse wasn't near and my planner wasn't near.  What is almost 100% of the time near?  Yep, my phone!  That should have been a no-brainer since my phone calendar is what I always used to remember appointments and tasks in  my pre-planner days.

I was about to find an app for this when I realized I really didn't want to learn or become familiar with another app (nor did I want to take up any more memory than necessary).  I decided to use what was available on my iPhone and opened up the Reminders app.  It's perfect; just a to-do list that I can tic-off when the item is completed.  I can also set up an alert to remind me in a day or even to remind me when I am at a particular location (which I think is pretty snazzy).

Too bad it doesn't sync to my paper planner.  What if I forget to check my reminders app?  Well, that is possible, even though it does sit right next to Candy Crush!  That means I need to add "Check Phone Reminders" to my daily tasks in my planner.

There's always a planner solution!

New Size for Minimalist Christmas Planner - Personal

Saturday, November 22, 2014
I had many requests to make my Half Size Minimalist Christmas Planner into 3.7 x 6.7 or, also known as, Personal Size.

Here is the scaled down version.  It includes most of the elements that is in the half-size, there are just not as many sections for notes.  I hope many of you can use it.

Work The Program!

Thursday, November 20, 2014
It is Thursday night and tomorrow is Friday school. My oldest just came into the room and said "I have nothing to wear tomorrow". Sigh.

Thankfully it is not too late to take care of the situation but obviously I would have preferred to do it earlier in the day.  Using my planner has helped me to get on top of things like this but this week, eluded me.

I realize that I should have had a note in my weekly calendar (maybe I should have been working a daily page today) reminding me to make sure the boys had school clothes for tomorrow.

I turned it into a positive but looking ahead two weeks to the next Friday school day and I wrote on Thursday "school clothes for the boys". I think I understand why Giftie circles reoccurring events - even events that you think you would never forget. I circled the reminder for next Friday school and when that day arrives, I will remember to write it forward, as it occurs three times a month.

Work the program!

Winter Themed (Undated) Daily Pages

Wednesday, November 19, 2014
When I woke up this morning it was 24 degrees!  Brrr!  I just keep thinking that winter should wait until at least December to arrive.  Well, since it has warmed up to 25 degrees now, I think I will share with you a winter themed printable today.

This daily page is not new, it's the one I use regularly but I have decorated it just a bit with some fun winter clipart.  Stay warm!

Blog Planner v.2

Tuesday, November 18, 2014
Now that I am posting almost every day (except Sunday) I pre-schedule some of my posts which means, you guessed it, I have to plan ahead!  After writing a post, I try to create an eye-catching graphic and after I schedule and post it, I post the link to a few social media websites such as Pinterest and Facebook.

After viewing a few blog planners online, I figured out what would work best for me and created this check sheet to keep up with it all.  It's a simple list to write down the name or topic of your blog post and check boxes to tick off after you complete your tasks.

I just attempted a personal size version of my One Page Minimalist Thanksgiving Planner.  I don't use that size and although I printed a copy and thought it seemed to work, I wish someone who uses that size would try it out and let me know how it turned out for them!

Creating Christmas Traditions

I so love this time of the year!  I want to do it all and end up not doing much just because I don't have a plan.  This week I created a list of 31 things I wanted to do or experience with my family this December.  I know I won't do them all but at least I have a starting place and I am more likely to do more than I did last year.

For the Letter and Half sizes, I have included my list and a blank list for you to list your own Holiday Traditions.  The Personal and Pocket sizes only include the blank list (but print yourself a larger size to keep on your bulletin board!

One Page Minimalist Christmas Planner

Saturday, November 15, 2014

During the 31 Days in October series I shared my 2014 Christmas Planner.  I liked how the pages turned out and printed them out for my planner.  Even though I liked them ad how they made me all "Christmasy", I didn't like the fact that there were so. many. pages. to fill in!  I needed something a little more streamlined and minimal and that is how I came up with this idea.

Using folded inserts hasn't been my favorite thing but I decided I can handle it for a few weeks until Christmas.  The insert should be folded on letter-size paper.  I punched holes on the left side of page 1 (the title page) and put it in my planner; then I took the right side and folded it over right up to the edge of the rings - it works great!

There are plenty of room for notes, lots of checkboxes for todo lists, things to make, buy and bake and lots of room to record gift ideas for family, school, church and more.  If you give it a try, let me know what you think - I know it is working very well for me.

It is cold this morning in the South!  I am always surprised when it starts feeling cold in November since the calendar clearly states that it is still Fall!  ~ smile ~

Things That Make Me Happy:
  1. Watching the season change from my big picture window.
  2. Watching a concept click in my son's mind.

2015 Monthly Calendars for Your Planner

Thursday, November 13, 2014

Again, let me explain why the files are not all in one document:  I use a free version of PagePlus and it only allows 5 pages in one file.  I'm sorry I have to break them up but I am hoping that the deeply discounted price (FREE!) will make up for it!  :)

Week on 2 Pages with Columns [printable]

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

I designed these week on two pages to have columns instead of rows.  I don't know if I will stay with these but I had to try them out.  I liked the idea of having categories down the left side of the page to divide up my entries.  The categories on this download are blank for you to fill in your own.  I am currently using these categories:  To Do, Out & About, Health & Fitness, Just For Me, School and Remember!

Creatively Re-Purposing Packaging Materials

Tuesday, November 11, 2014
The idea of repurposing packaging material certainly did not originate with me but when I first read about it, I thought it was fabulous!  Since that time, I have been on the lookout for such packaging to modify for my planner.

Last weekend I bought a small package of magnetic bookmarks that just happened to be the right size for my 8.5 x 5.5 planner.  The bookmarks were slipped inside soft plastic, and it would make a great pocket to slip something inside, such as a task list.

I attached some post it notes to mine, punched the holes and put it in the front of my dashboard.  I use the small post-its for meal planning and most recently to track chores that do not need to be scheduled on a regular basis.  Well, I guess I should say that I know that I am not going to schedule them on a regular basis.

I simply write the chores on a small post it note and line them up on my planner page (see image).  When one has been completed, I remove the chore and put it on the other side of the page in the order they were completed.  After they are all completed, I'll flip the page and start all over (which reminds me, this page needs to be punched on the right side as well.

Modified Monday

Monday, November 10, 2014

Welcome to Modified Mondays where I take an old printable and modify it to make it new.  This week's printable is a week on 2 pages that I did as a custom order.  This person wanted owls, a daily space with check boxes and a notes area without any lines.  We came up with something very cute!

Use Your Dashboard!

Saturday, November 8, 2014

As I have mentioned several times before, my planner is always changing and evolving and I like it in every stage.  Coming in only second to my Weekly Pages, my dashboard is my most used planner section.

A dashboard is different things for different people but most all would agree that a dashbaord is a landing place.  Some planners put a favorite picture that has been laminated in the front of their planner and call it a (non-functional) dashboard.  A lot of planners have a dashboard of Post-It notes and stickers while others, such as myself, just have several sheets of notepaper for a dashboard.  As a a self-declared "functional planner", this is what works best for me

Currently I am using graph paper to jot down my notes and really enjoy the lines, rows and columns.  What do I write on my dashboard?  Everything!!

Take a closer look at my dash.  As a transplant patient, I juggle a number of medications.  I had to call the pharmacy on 11/3 with some questions and jotted down my thoughts before calling - this helps me stay focused with my questions and not get flustered & distracted.  I make a detailed grocery list before shopping but when I see we are out of something during the week, I jot it down in the corner of my dashboard.

When I am in a hurry I will sometimes jot a date or event that needs to go on my weekly or monthly calendar; but always come back to m ash to enter it where it belongs.  It is treated somewhat as a to-do list and I use a highlighter to mark through things as they are taken care of or no longer needed.  when it is full, I take it out of the binder, flip it and use the other side.

I have even been known to draw a rough graphic of a printable that I want to create so I won't forget it later.  Generally, I don't have my notes in my planner but in the event it is something I want to keep or need for later, I will file it in either my current "projects" file or my archived "files" (A-Z files).

What does your dashboard look like?

Friday Felicities: What Makes You Happy?

Friday, November 7, 2014
Today I am reviving an old meme that my dear friend Nattie started several years ago.  Natalie's meme was called "Friday Felicities" and it is all about sharing the things that make you happie.  She had her share of hardships but she inspired us all with her ability to count her blessings in the midst of them.  I sure miss my friend

Natalie Rose is now a permanent and eternal resident of heaven, after dying from cancer 7½ years ago when she was in her early 30's.  I have so many great memories of Nattie and maybe I will share them with you in the weeks to come; but now I will share with you my Felicities!

Things That Make Me Happy:

  1. Practically living on the Natchez Trace!  If I had to guess (and I'm not good with distances), I'd say we are about 1/8 of a mile from the Trace and I love it.  I take it every chance I get and I am now especially enjoying the beautiful fall colors.
  2. Lower temperatures  While it does seem that we are trying to skip Fall again and go directly to winder, cooler temperatures are still my favorite.  This Southern girl can't take the heat but in the kitchen I remain!
  3. My current weekly planner pages - I only print a month at a time so I am always tweaking them and they are working great for me now.  I added a faint line dividing the day into as well as faint check boxes and a place to write down my nightly menu.
  4. November and December especially make me happy as I love having my entire family over for Thanksgiving.  If we all make it, there's about 23 people present - and then there's Christmas!
Do people still do meme's?  You are welcome to participate in this one!  Feel free to jot down the things that make you happy in the comment section below OR maybe you would like to blog them on your own blog or Facebook page?  If so, please leave your URL in the comments so I can visit!

Have a Fabulous Friday!!

Monthly Gratitude List [printable]

Thursday, November 6, 2014
We're entering the season where a lot of us are going to be focused on finding and giving the right gift.  Sometimes we might even worry and stress over the ordeal.

Now is a good time to focus on the things we are blessed and grateful for, especially with Thanksgiving approaching.  I made this insert to keep a running list of the things I am thankful for.

You can see one way I do this in action by checking out my new weekly blog meme coming up tomorrow, "Friday Felicities".

Daily Chores Insert *NEW*

Wednesday, November 5, 2014
I am finding that the more I use my planner, the more it grows and changes and becomes invaluable!  There is always a new tip or technique to try.

I've been jotting down a few chores, that I wanted to keep up with on a daily basis, on a Post-it note and checking them off everyday.  This has worked great but my list has grown.

My list is printed twice on each side and then folded in half and stuck between my week on two pages sheet. I can keep up with my daily tasks but still see the upcoming week.   Since this picture was taken I have also punched the other side and when half the week is over, I take the insert out and put it back in with the other holes so I can still see the list without having to flip back and forth.

I've made a half-size blank version if this appeals to you.  With it being blank, you could use it for most anything!

New Printable - Day on 2 Pages

Tuesday, November 4, 2014
I have been practicing making personal & pocket sized pages and when a lady on the DIY Planner & Organisers Facebook group posted she was looking for an insert that had a day on 2 pages for personal size, I thought I would give it a go.  Please check here for suggestions on printing and cutting for personal and pocket sized pages.

Scripture Study Free Printable

Monday, November 3, 2014
I saw something similar to this on Pinterest and adapted it to work in my planner.  I know the spaces are small but truly, if I was going to an in-depth study on a verse or chapter, I would buy a whole separate notebook to write in as much as I needed to.  This is perfect for my quiet time, a cup of coffee and my planner.

Limited Time Offer: Custom Orders - Still Free!

Sunday, November 2, 2014

I've been wanting to try this so I am jumping in and giving it a go.  I am calling it a "limited time offer" because I'm not sure how it is going to work out and I don't want to commit to it before knowing what all it will involve.  I am a mom, homeschool teacher and stay at home wife and my days are pretty full.  Planner Fun is my hobby and I enjoy it so much but as you might imagine, it isn't my first priority.  Hit me up with your ideas!

The Details:
  • Click here and enter your name and email address on the contact form: please include the idea for your custom printable.  I will respond to your email and let you know what number you are on the waiting list.  We'll get started when it is your turn.
  • I will keep the waiting list indefinitely but ask that you keep in mind what I mentioned above, this is my hobby and I can't work with deadlines.  I will work on the orders for the duration of this blog.
  • This offer is for one (1) custom printable therefore I am not able to do dated pages.
  • Unless you request otherwise, printables will be shared on Planner Fun.
  • You may request specific fonts on your printable as long as your provide a link to the font you want, and the font is free!  :)
  • You may request a specific color as long as you provide the color code (for example the color code for white is #FFFFFF.  Please do not request more than 2 or 3 colors
  • Please do not request printable that have anything to do with witchcraft, the occult or anything else that might be considered objectionable.  This is a personal issue for me and I hope you understand.
  • I work best with lots of emails back and forth to understand exactly what you want!
Clear as mud?  Sorry for all the "rules" but felt like the parameters should be stated!

What To Do When You Make Mistakes in Your Planner

Saturday, November 1, 2014
Once upon a time I used to be a perfectionist type when it came to writing letters, filling out forms and even writing notes.  If I made a mistake, I was very likely to start completely over rather than use some of correction fluid or even erasing.  When I started using my planner this past summer I knew that I couldn't be doing that, even though I do make my own planner pages

As I have mentioned several times before, finding Giftie Etcetera's blog and Facebook group really help define and change the way I use my planner.  If I make a mistake now I don't get uptight about it, but there are are a few things I might do to try and hide it.

If I write something on the wrong date on my weekly pages, I handle the task as if I have already completed the task, even if it is on a future date. I check it "done" and cross through it with my highlighter (Giftie's Reverse Highlight Trick!); then I make sure I find the correct date and I write it down again.  Even though I know I made a mistake, it still follows the flow of my planner.  A mind trick, if you will!

Of course you could always use correction fluid, cover it with a full-adhesive or regular Post-It note, or even cover it with a sticker (maybe one that says "oops", LOL).

If mistakes really bother you, a pencil or erasable pen is your best bet!
