Hey guys, sorry for being AWOL this past weekend. I was sick and busy and needed to let the blog take a backseat for a few days.
Last week I finished a large part of my Christmas shopping and am about ready to wrap the gifts and put them under the tree and then relax and enjoy the rest of the season. My husband and I kind of pick out our own gifts most of the time since we know what we really want. I really wanted a new planner and even treated myself to overnight shipping because I just couldn't wait.
I decided against getting a Filofax (even thought that would have been so cool) and bought this flexible Daytimer in red. That was the thing that most appealed to me about the Filofax in the first place, the flexible cover and snap closure.
This one is simulated (fake!) leather but it is soft and flexible and I love it. It has two pen holders which I am loving, and plenty of pockets on both front and back inside covers.
It came with some really nice inserts but the first thing I did when it arrived is to pull all of them out and put mine in. It's like another reader said, the first thing you do when you move into a new house is to put your things in - so I guess I am not too crazy. I just like my setup so I'm going to use it until I get the urge to do something differently.
It came with a nice pad of paper that I will for sure be using, as well as the zip pocket and "today" bookmark.
I did some rearranging of my dividers. I went back to putting a to-do list right in front, with a few blank pages for random notes right behind it. Previously I was making notes on my weekly pages, and I still do that while thinking ahead in the week, but I've found I like that to-do list front and center so I can check them off and see at a glance what is left to be done.
Instead of a monthly and a weekly tab, I'm using the 2014 monthly dividers I got from Vera Bradley (anyone else take part of that huge deal?) and am putting the monthly and weekly calendars together (separated by a page marker). I will only keep 2-3 months of pages in my planner at a time so it doesn't get too full.
I finally put my new label maker to good use and made labels for my dividers. I've kept the same (category) dividers, just moved them around a little - the ones I use most frequently finding a home nearer the front. This setup has worked marvelously for me the last several months and I see no need to change any of it.
Side note: another reason I like the texture of this planner is because I can grab it and go - my old one was a slick leather and I would drop it almost every time I picked it up!
These dividers were made from some pretty file folders I found at the Dollar Tree (3/$1). I traced my old ones, cut them out and popped a label on them - easy! Anytime you want a new look, it would be easy to change them out.
I'm happy I got my planner early - I was never very good at waiting, anyway.
