Changes to My Blog

Earlier this month with the start of school, I took a break from blogging.  We now have our curriculum established, as well as the flow of our days, and I felt like I would be able to start blogging again.  I've established a few guidelines for myself that I feel will make it possible for me to continue blogging in the weeks to come.

One of the things that took a lot of my time (not counting the time it took to create the inserts) was making an image for each blog post I created.  Now I will rely more on clip art and stock images for my posts and will not be making screenshots of the inserts I create.  It will only take you a few seconds to click on the links to see the insert and will save me tons of time.

I will not be making it my goal to blog every single day.  Tips, hacks, and bright idea (as well as links to good stuff) will be posted more often than inserts.  My hopes are to post (at least) one insert every week, but that is a hope - I don't intend to pressure myself!

The freebie index will no longer be maintained after today, but I do intend on putting categories on my inserts from here on out.  That will help you find the new stuff.  Don't forget to subscribe to the blog - either by email or news reader, that way you'll always be informed when I have published something new.

If you have any thoughts on my inserts (good, bad, constructive criticism, etc.), or have an idea for an insert, please leave a comment.  Since all my inserts are free, you can consider a comment a tip!  :)

Fall Is In The Air!! [printable]

It's not actually HERE yet, but it IS in the air!!  After a hot summer, we're enjoying highs in the low to mid 80's, so it definitely feels like a hint of fall.  Anyway, I am looking forward to all things Autumn:  cooler temps, changing leaves and pumpkin spice everything!

Today I am popping in to share a new to do list I just made.  The clip-art is the same as the one you see above.  You can download it in half-size here.

Happy Friday!!

Blog Announcement!

I should make some sort of announcement but I really don't know what to say.  I'm not quitting my blog, but I know for sure that I am not going to be keeping up the pace of posting almost everyday like I have been.  As a matter of fact, I'm not going to commit to a schedule at all.

Planning is still very important to me; as a matter of fact, it has been a major help in almost everything I do.  The major thing going on today is that we started our 10th year of homeschooling.  My  youngest is in the 8th grade, and my oldest is a freshman in high school.  It is something that takes a lot of my time, and I do it quite willingly, but other interests often go on the back burner.

So, I will be around.  If I get an idea for an insert I want to create, I will create it.  If I try a new hack that makes using my planner easier, I'll blog about it.  If someone asks me a question, I'll answer it - I'm just not going to put my brain through the mental stress of posting everyday.

I am going to unsubscribe from all my planner groups except for two - both of them by Giftie - I can't miss anything she wants to share with us.  If you want to reach me, please email me (contact info is on the nav bar underneath my blog header) or leave a comment.

Don't forget me - I'm only a few computer clicks away!!

Homeschool Attendance Record [printable]

One more week until school starts around here.  I've been using this attendance sheet for a couple of years.  If you need one, you can download it here.

Note:  I found a mistake - sort of.  When I made it, I added 31 days to each column.  I had the intentions of crossing out the extra days in February, etc. and I guess it didn't occur to me to just put the dates needed (duh!).  Don't forget - in 2016, February has 29 days!

Friday Felicities: Back To School Edition

Friday Felicities is all about things that make you happy and was started by my friend Nattie. She knew the value of counting your blessings. Nattie has been a resident of heaven since 2007. I miss her a lot.

Things That Make Me Happy:

  • buying new school supplies (yes, I am that person)
  • making new school planner inserts
  • new routines and schedules (yes, still that person)
  • the promise of Fall and cooler days
  • two healthy, happy pre/teenagers who [mostly] like school
  • one month until Friday School starts back!
  • a play date hanging out with an old school buddy
Feel free to participate on your blog, your Facebook, in my comments, or on a to-do list.  Please also feel free to leave a comment or link your blog (whether you "participated" or not)!

Throw Back Thursday

A year ago this month, I was sharing the August week-at-a-glance inserts that I had made for my new planner.  Check out those huge, colorful tabs!  My style has definitely changed since then.  Since then I have gone to a Week on 2 Pages spread (and my tabs have changed drastically).

Has your style changed over the past year?

Reader Request: Week on 2 Pages for MTN [printable]

A reader asked me to make a personal size insert for her MTN with 5 days on one side, two on the second page with a dot grid filling the rest of the page.  This is what I attempted to do - remember, I have never made MTN inserts nor have I even seen one. Someone will have to tell me if it is even close.

Unfortunately the reader did not leave a correct email and I can't send this to her.  There are others of you who have made a request that have not left enough details for your insert, failed to give the correct email address, or have given only a partial address.  That is probably why you haven't received a response from me!

Download the above insert HERE. (the link has been corrected)

{OFF} Topic Tuesday

I entitled this "Off Topic Tuesday", but I think I could stretch it to cover planners if I really worked it!

See the box above?  I fill that up every week with a lot of meds (transplant patient).  I have had boxes before with removable tops, but this one has individual lids.  I open them all up but most of them stay in the halfway position and sometimes it is a pain to lift them up when I am filling each individual box.

Yesterday it occurred to me that a large rubber band would hold all of them up until I was finished.  Of course I didn't have a large rubber band, so I got to thinking.  I remembered that I had bought a packed of four headbands at the dollar tree for my temporary planner (see, I worked the planner into the post!), so I gave that a try.  As you can see from the picture above, it worked!    Maybe some of you have had a similar problem - hope this helps!

New Planner Layout

I guess y'all have heard the term, "planner peace", right?  Even though I have been known to switch out my inserts often (I have to test out the inserts I design!), I have always considered myself to have that peace.

The past couple of weeks have found me not being totally happy with my planner.  I think maybe it has to do with a major (at least for me) change around here - my oldest is starting high school...and I'm the teacher!  There's lots of planning to be done but I have been putting it off.  Maybe it's because I don't want my "little boy" to start high school.  Maybe I'm overwhelmed with all the things running through my brain that I have to do!  Regardless, that's what's going on.

We hope to start school at the end of the week, so this past Saturday I took some time to work with my planner and ended up making a few changes.  My system and my inserts are staying exactly the same - I just moved things around.

I removed the dashboard
First of all, I removed the dashboard with the stickies.  I didn't need as many as I had on the board, but I do like having them with me, I put 2 pads in the pockets inside my planner:  a "regular" size and a smaller sized pad.  I also stuck a longer lined pad inside a pocket as well. The majority of my planning is done while I am on my chaise lounge, and I have a table next to it with my planner supplies, so I can reach any size sticky I need; therefore I think just two pads are enough.

The dashboard is replaced with daily and/or note pages (graph paper behind the daily pages).  I wanted the page to be the first thing I see when I open my planner so I will see at a glance what I need to do around the house, what I need (supplies) for school, or errands my husbands my husband might need me to take care of.

I removed the dividers
The major change is that I removed my full page dividers!  This might be temporary, I'll see how I like it.  I have a "today" bookmark inside my weekly pages but I also stuck a small pink tab that will also get me to my pages (it just seemed more convenient).  Following that is a second tab that leads me to my current monthly pages.  I bought these tabs at the Dollar Tree and have a good supply of them.  They're easy to use over or, if they loose their sticky, I just replace them.  The green tab at the top takes me to my future pages.

Behind the Future Pages are the A-Z pages.  The blue tab on the bottom right takes me to the index if I need it, otherwise I can easily see the A-Z dividers.

I can't explain why I like it better, but for right now, I do.  I reserve the right to change my mind at any time!

Devotional Journal - Now For Letter Size Planners & Notebooks [printable]

One of my readers wrote to tell me that she liked these inserts and was going to try and resize them to fit her letter size planner (or notebook).  I think it was probably much easier for me to resize them.  You can find the link here.
