My Planner Choice for 2026: Compact Franklin Inserts + Undated Weeklies
This is the setup I’ve chosen going into 2026, and why it feels like a good fit for me.
I’ve been thinking through my planner setup for 2026, and I wanted to write it down — not because it’s perfect or final, but because it reflects how I’m actually planning right now.
I’m using Compact-size Franklin-style inserts with a Day on 2 Pages layout, along with monthly pages and undated weekly inserts that I already know I like.
What I’m using
- Size: Compact (4.25" x 6.75")
- Daily pages: Day on 2 Pages
- Monthly pages: calendar, index page, and a master task list for each month
- Weekly pages: yes — but undated
Why I chose Compact size
Compact feels manageable to me. It’s easy to keep nearby and doesn’t feel bulky, but I still have enough room to write comfortably.
I don’t need a lot of extra space — I just want pages that feel usable and don’t get in the way of actually planning.
Compact feels like a size I’ll continue to reach for, which matters more to me than having more pages.
Why Day on 2 Pages works for me
The day-on-two-pages layout gives me room to see my appointments, write out tasks, and leave notes without feeling crowded.
I like being able to give a day a little breathing room. Some days are full, some aren’t, and this layout handles both.
The monthly pages I rely on
Monthly calendar
This is where I note appointments, deadlines, and anything that affects the month as a whole.
Monthly index page
I use this as a simple reference page — things I want to remember or find again later.
Monthly master task list
This is where I keep tasks that matter for the month, but don’t belong on a specific day yet.
About weekly pages
I do use weekly pages — just not dated ones.
I’m not always consistent with weeklies. Some weeks I really like seeing everything laid out together. Other weeks, I’m mostly in my daily pages.
Because of that, undated weeklies make more sense for me. If I skip a week, nothing feels wasted or “behind.”
The weekly inserts I’m using
I’m using the undated weekly inserts I made and already know I like. They’re a clean, column-style layout for mapping out the week at a glance.
Sometimes I use the weekly pages to keep up with posting to social media. Other times, I just like seeing the week all together. I like having the option without feeling locked into it.
How I’m planning to use this setup
- At the start of the month, I fill in the calendar and set up the master task list.
- If I want a weekly overview, I add an undated weekly page.
- Most days, I’m working directly from the daily pages.
This setup feels realistic for me going into 2026. It gives me structure without requiring me to use every page every week.
Do you prefer having weekly pages built in, or do you like keeping weeklies optional?
