I’ll be honest—by this point, I was getting a little tired of meat. I missed my coffee. Many people drink coffee on carnivore, but without creamer it just wasn’t worth it to me, so I quit. Sometimes I crave a salad. Plenty of people would say, “Just eat one—it won’t hurt.” But I’m not willing to deviate from the way of eating that normalized my A1c, brought my blood pressure into range, eliminated one blood pressure medication, and cut another in half.

I’m losing weight. I feel better. And I wake up each day curious to see what will change next. I ended December with a 3.3-pound loss.

Then the new year arrived—and so did a surprise. At the end of December, the scale showed a 6.8-pound gain. I was shocked. I still don’t fully understand it, but I’ve learned my weight often fluctuates up for several days before dropping again. I’ve stopped trying to explain it and started trusting the process.

By January 3, two pounds were gone. The next day, another 1.3. By Tuesday the 6th, I had dropped 4.8 more pounds. Wednesday brought another 0.6 loss, and Thursday—today—another 1.3.

From July 1 to January 8, I went from 340 pounds to 298.1—a total loss of 41.9 pounds. More importantly, the data shows my health has improved. I’m proud of myself because I’m finally doing it.

I credit God for hearing my prayers—and for using my sister to get me started. I am deeply thankful.

November – My First Thanksgiving as a Carnivore

I kept hearing people say that when you start carnivore, the “food noise” goes away. I didn’t really understand what that meant until I experienced it myself. In the past, every attempt at weight loss meant constant mental chatter—counting calories, questioning every food choice, wondering if I was hungry or just bored. That was food noise. I know now because it’s gone.

On carnivore, hunger fades, and food no longer dominates my thoughts. I don’t spend the day thinking about when or what I’ll eat. In fact, I often have to remind myself to eat.

November brought my first Thanksgiving on carnivore. I host every year. I kept the turkey, ham, and deviled eggs but skipped my usual cornbread dressing. I made mashed potatoes for the family but didn’t eat any. I allowed myself one literal forkful of broccoli casserole, then returned to my carnivore food.

That night, I felt sick to my stomach. It surprised me that such a small amount affected me. What stood out most was this: it was the first Thanksgiving of my life that I didn’t end the day uncomfortably stuffed.

I finished November down another 5.2 pounds.

August – October 2025

My weight loss through August and September was slow, but I celebrated every pound and partial pound. Years earlier, my CRNP had told me that with my health issues and medications, weight loss might not be possible and that I should focus on wellness. I didn’t know if he was right, but I wasn’t willing to quit.

By the end of September, I had lost 5.4 pounds. More importantly, my blood pressure was normalizing, and my insulin dropped from 40 units to 26.

Things picked up in October. The arthritis in my right thumb disappeared. I began moving more—short walks down the driveway, working in the kitchen without my rolling chair. By the end of October, I had lost another 6.3 pounds.

How It All Began

It all began on July 1, 2025.

Ten months earlier, my sister Jennifer started the carnivore diet and immediately saw results. I was committed to a plant-based diet and believed meat, eggs, and fat were unhealthy. I supported her progress, even though I wasn’t ready to consider it myself.

After years of no success, I had to admit my approach wasn’t working. Near the end of June, church friends shared their carnivore experience. My husband heard it firsthand and said, “Let’s try it.”

We started cold turkey on July 1, 2025.

I experienced keto flu and gout twice during the adjustment period. Once it passed, it never returned. By the end of July, I felt better—and had lost 15 pounds.
